The Importance of a Healthy Lifestyle to Prevent Diabesity


Precautions
Preventing type 2 diabetes is possible by:
  • Going to a yearly check up
  • Measuring your weight
  • See if anyone in your family has/had diabetes.
  • Reaching healthy weight by: exerising, and have a healthy diet.

MEDICAL PRECAUTIONS
A research shows that medications may help prevent the progression to type 2 diabetes in people with impaired glucose tolerance. 
One clinical trial, called the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP), done by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), showed that people who have a high risk for developing type 2 diabetes could reduce that risk by 31% when using the prescription diabetes drug Metformin alone with lifestyle and diet changes.
This medications of course are prescribed by a doctor. 


Eating healthy foods.
  • Eat a balanced diet, including whole grains, lean meat, and vegetables.
  • Limit saturated fats.
  • Limit alcohol.
  • Limit calories in order to avoid gaining weight, or to help you lose weight.
  • Reduce your intake of soft drinks, sugary foods, and junk food.
  • Eat smaller meals more often in order to keep blood sugar levels within your target range.
  • Eating more vegetables, whole grains, and nuts can lower your risk for type 2 diabetes. 
  • Eating a lot of sugary foods, fast foods, and red meat (especially processed red meat) and drinking a lot of soft drinks can increase your risk for type 2 diabetes. If you want to learn more about eating well, see the topic Healthy Eating

Maintain a healthy weight..

To find out if you are overweight, you can use the body mass index (BMI) chart for adults or the same chart in metric . If you need to lose weight, losing as few as 10 lb. (4.5 kg) to 20 lb. (9.1 kg) can help reduce your risk of developing diabetes

Exercise!
First of all exercise can boost your mood, increase your energy, help you manage your blood glucose levels, and most importantly, it can be a FUN!
The main goal for exercising with diabetes is to get active and stay activeevery day. 
                          You can start with 30 min per day!
There are 3 main types of exercise:
  • Aerobic exercise
  • Weight lifting or strengthening
  • Stretching or flexibility like yoga, pilates, etc.
Exercising regularly is one of the best ways to control your condition, especially if you need to lose weight. It helps you manage your type 2 diabetes, especially your blood glucose levels. 
More suggestions are:
  • Move during commercial breaks. 
  • Park your car farther away from the door.
  • Stand up when you’re on the phone. 
  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator. 
  • Walk to do errands instead of taking the car. 

Complications
Complications of diabetes are serious it includes:
  • Heart disease and stroke
  • Hypertension, blindness
  • Kidney disease
  • Amputation
  • Complications in pregnancy 
  • Depression
